Released on June 20, 2025, “K-Pop Demon Hunters” quickly became a worldwide sensation that broke numerous Netflix records in just two weeks.
The story follows the Huntr/x girls, Rumi, Mira and Zoey, in their journey of defeating the demons that plague their world. In order to save their fans, the girls must seal the Honmoon, which creates a barrier between the demons and the world above. However, a demon boy band, known as the Saja Boys, enters the K-Pop universe in hopes of destroying the hunters for good. When lead singer Rumi’s biggest secret is revealed to Jinu, one of the Saja Boys, she finally feels a sense of freedom but is torn between betraying her friends or committing to her goal of sealing the Honmoon.
Not only does this movie include a fantastic storyline, but it contains record breaking songs that have reached the Top 5 on the charts with artists such as Alex Warren, Sabrina Carpenter, Morgan Wallen, etc. The hit song “Golden” by Huntr/x is currently number two on the Billboard charts, second only to “Ordinary” by Alex Warren. Other songs include “Your Idol” and “Takedown,” which was even covered by icons Jeongyeon, Jihyo and Chaeyoung from the K-Pop band TWICE.
Lillie Kimbrell (10) is inspired by the message that “K-Pop Demon Hunters” expresses and enjoys everything from the animation style to the hit songs.
“I love how they convey the message to be yourself and to accept the parts of you that are broken and move forward being honest to yourself. What makes this movie unique is the animation style and how there hasn’t been a movie like this made before,” Kimbrell said. “I think the music in the movie is perfectly crafted. The harmonies are stunning and the composition of the music flows perfectly. The lyrics for ‘Golden,’ ‘This is What it Sounds Like’ and ‘Free’ convey beautiful messages.”
“K-Pop Demon Hunters” became the most-watched animated film on Netflix, accumulating roughly 160 million views worldwide. The girl group Huntr/x reached the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 with their song “Golden” becoming the first fictional and first all-women group in 24 years to achieve this, and it was submitted for consideration for Best Original Song in the Academy Awards. “Your Idol” is another record-breaking song sung by the Saja Boys. This song became the highest-charted male K-Pop group on the U.S. Spotify Chart, surpassing iconic boy bands such as BTS.
Hyrum Grinder’s (11) favorite song from the movie is “Your Idol,” but claims that all the music is very well done.
“I enjoy the song’s impressive melody and lyrics; however, the lack of a sequel is disturbing,” Grinder said,
Because this film was so unexpectedly popular, there had not been a sequel planned; however, director Maggie Kang has hinted at potential backstories for characters Mira and Zoey, because with so many unanswered questions, fans are begging for a part two. In addition, a “K-Pop Demon Hunters” sing-along version was even shown in theaters on Aug. 23-24, and fans were ecstatic to attempt the incredible notes of the film’s hit songs.
While Evie Crosland (10) hasn’t seen K-Pop Demon Hunters, it has been recommended to her by many people.
“I am interested in watching it, seeing what all the hype is about and learning more about it,” Crosland said.
