The new release of both the Xbox Series X and the PS5 begs the question of which next-gen console is worth buying.

Both Microsoft and Sony are just weeks away from releasing their next generation consoles to the general public. Microsoft plans on releasing the Xbox Series X on Nov. 10, along with its cheaper sibling the Xbox Series S. Two days later on Nov. 12, Sony will release their PlayStation 5 in the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. Both consoles will cost $500 when they hit stores.

The consoles are neck-and-neck when it comes down to the details. The major difference between the two is PS5 can process data at 5.5GB per second, while the Series X does so at 2.4GB per second. This means PS5 players will spend less time loading into games and game lobbies. The PS5 will be capable of 4k gaming at 120 frames per second, as well as for 8k gaming. The Series X will have the same specs with 4k and 8k gaming.

“We don’t anticipate a situation where one console is ultimately noticeably more powerful than the other unless developers find ways to really take advantage of the PS5’s SDD capabilities,” Byrd said.

A major difference that will be a deal breaker for consumers interested in the consoles are the exclusive games. Microsoft has recently released an Xbox exclusive flight simulator that will be available with the Series X, bringing them a lot of attention. Sony has plans to release Marvels Spider-Man: Miles Morales as PS5 exclusive on Nov. 12.

Hugh Lemonds (9) is an Xbox enthusiast and is anxious for the new systems to release to the public.

“Play Station has more exclusive games to play, but Xbox has games that are more fun,” Lemonds said .

With the release of new consoles comes redesigning and the actual shape of the gaming system. The Series X has taken more of a rectangular cube shape that many say looks like a mini fridge.

Gamer Emory Butehorn (10) thinks the rectangular cube shape of the Series X takes up too much space and prefers the alternative.

“I would rather get the Ps5 because the Series X is too large,” Butehorn said.

As these two new consoles release, they will frontier a faster, better and more realistic gaming experience. The only question is…which console will you pick?
