The Spartanburg High School Homecoming Parade was on Oct. 30, at 6:30 p.m. It contained groups like the football team, the German club, class floats, JROTC and the homecoming court. Students in the homecoming court appeared in the parade with colored signs and lots of school spirit.
The class floats were themed as places around the world. Freshmen were Italy, sophomores were Hawaii, juniors were Brazil, and seniors were Egypt. Each float was constructed by student council members in each grade.
Averi Jefferson, the sophomore class president (10), led the creation of her grade level’s homecoming float.
“The sophomore class and I worked to set up our homecoming float by scheduling set days to plan, prep and build our float. We ordered and built props that went with our Hawaiian-themed float as well as planned outfits to fit the theme. Each sophomore class council member that showed up and put forth lots of effort towards our product,” Jefferson said.
To bring the parade to a close, the Spartan High Vikings football team rode in on a trailer accompanied by their coaches.
Ruben Landrum (12), a Spartan High running back, was ecstatic to be included in the football team family and the homecoming parade.
“It made me feel very excited to be a part of something for the school,” Landrum said.
