The Spartanburg Vikings boys and girls basketball teams have both delivered a season full of energy, growth and determination, entertaining the whole arena with their stellar performances early on this season. Both teams entered the year with high expectations, and so far, they have delivered some impressive performances and notable wins.
On the boys’ side, some standout players include Johnston Abrams (12), averaging an impressive 19 points per game. Abrams is known for his pristine accuracy from deep and his ability to read the court. Dyllan Harris (12), averaging 17 points per game, has remained perfect from the free-throw line and has racked up a respectable number of blocks thus far. Standing at 6-foot-4-inches and playing center, Brishawn Young (11) leads the team in rebounds and leads the team in shot percentage from the field. These are just some of the numbers and players making an impact towards a great season for the Vikings.
Johnston Abrams (12) is a star player on the boys’ basketball team and has had quite the senior season so far.
“Over the past few years with the team, I’ve grown a lot, and it has been really fun working with the guys to get better and win together,” Abrams said.
The Lady Vikings have started off the new season right, putting up impressive numbers against their opponents as well. Some standout players for “The Sisterhood” include Azaria Sims (11), who leads the team in points scored overall so far this season. Another standout player for the Vikings is De’asia Bridges (11), who leads the team in assists. Kaylee Nelson (11) leads the Lady Vikings in rebounds and blocks.
Mary English Hammett (12) has been a Lady Vikings player for a few years now and has enjoyed being able to grow and win with her team.
“It has been a lot of fun over the years getting to know new people and be able to share a lot of fun memories from games with each other,” Hammett said.
Leslie Boyd is the head coach for the Lady Vikings basketball team and is very pleased with the team’s performance this season.
“Both our girls’ and our boys’ teams have played phenomenal so far this season. We’ve put in the work, and it has showed in the games and performances,” Boyd said.
Both the boys and girls teams still have important games remaining, including region play against Eastside, Riverside, Wade Hampton, Gaffney, Byrnes and the crosstown rivals, the Dorman Cavaliers. With the season still far from over, the Vikings are committed to finishing strong and continuing to represent Spartanburg High School with pride. The players’ hard work, combined with growing student support in the stands, has created an exciting atmosphere around Viking basketball.
As the final half of the 2025-26 season approaches, the Vikings are determined to keep improving, stay competitive and make the most of every opportunity out on the court.
