“Survivor” is reaching its 50th season, and the upcoming release has drawn attention from longtime fans and new viewers from across the globe. The series first premiered in 2000 and quickly became one of the most influential competition shows on network television. Its format, which places contestants in remote locations where they must build shelter, find food and endure physically tough environments, helped shape the direction of modern unscripted entertainment. Over the years, the show has introduced twists such as hidden immunity idols, tribe swaps and new voting mechanics, all of which kept the game evolving while maintaining its core focus on strategy and social dynamics.
According to Dalton Ross of Entertainment Weekly, “Survivor 50” is set to have the biggest group of contestants yet.
“The supersized group of 24 people marks the biggest batch of contestants yet, and it features players going all the way back from season one of ‘Survivor’,” Ross said.
Robert Hammett (12) has watched “Survivor” for years and is looking forward to the release of “Survivor 50.”
“I remember the first time that I watched ‘Survivor’ with my dad many years ago and I’ve always enjoyed watching episodes. I’ve heard about the 50th season release and I plan on watching the opening episode,” Hammett said.
Season 50 of “Survivor,” officially titled “Survivor 50,” is scheduled to premiere on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2026. CBS confirmed that the season will open with a three-hour premiere episode and continue with the classic weekly schedule, with new episodes every Wednesday. This milestone season features 24 returning players from the show’s history, bringing together contestants from different eras to compete in Fiji for another shot at the title of Sole Survivor. The cast includes well-known figures who have shaped the game over the past 25 years, and the season’s design incorporates elements selected through online fan voting.
CBS is also airing a two-week marathon of classic episodes leading up to the premiere, highlighting memorable moments and players who will return for season 50. This retrospective approach connects the show’s long history with what it has evolved into over the years. This gives viewers a chance to revisit iconic moments and challenges. The season itself has been said to be aimed at balancing nostalgia with former contestants with new challenges and gameplay.
The anticipation surrounding season 50 reflects how deeply “Survivor” has become part of the culture for networks around the world. Very few reality shows like “Survivor” have lasted this long or maintained such a dedicated and loyal audience. With a landmark cast, fan-influenced design and an extended premiere event, “Survivor 50” is positioned to celebrate the show’s legacy while continuing to push its legacy forward.
Wade Neely (12) has watched the show multiple times and thinks that the new 50th season anniversary will be a hit series for fans.
“I used to watch the show more often when I was younger, and I’ve always liked watching them because the episodes are always good and a lot of fun to watch,” Neely said.
