Waffle House originally opened in 1955 in Avondale Estates, Ga. It was created with the focus of quick-service food and around-the-clock hours. The 24-hour schedule that offers breakfast, classic lunch and dinner options suits the desires of every appetite. On the east side, Waffle House is a hangout destination for Spartanburg High School students. Whether it is a pre-school breakfast spot or a post-game snack, going to Waffle House is a surefire way of having a great time.
Emmet Walsh (10) savors the experience he has when spending time at the Waffle House.
“Waffle House is my number one breakfast spot. I get the All-Star breakfast at Waffle House, and I enjoy the people there,” Walsh said.
Waffle House is a great place to meet with friends; however, for some, it is also the perfect place to spend a romantic evening with a special someone. Waffle House holds an annual Valentine’s Day dinner in many locations across the South. This celebration started in 2008 in Johns Creek, Ga. Many customers in previous years spent their Valentine’s Day enjoying an affordable and comfortable meal at the Johns Creek Waffle House. The regulars kept showing up for their annual visit. One year, the staff decided to surprise the customers by setting out tablecloths, adding a few decorations and sampling a few festive menu items. It was a huge success. The Johns Creek area loved it. This started a trend for the brand, which spread throughout the franchises. Some details vary due to location, but many of the stores began to decorate with red roses and heart-shaped decor, according to USA Today.
Charlotte Ostwalt (10) loves getting to spend time at Waffle House with friends.
“Me and my friends absolutely love Waffle House; we like to go before or after football games and honestly whenever. We love all the fun and interesting people we meet and people watching. I’ve never heard of the Valentine’s Day dinner but I’m sure it’s a fun way to celebrate,” Ostwalt said.
This Valentine’s event has become very popular among patrons and there is a high demand for these one-night-only reservations. There is something cozy about going to a familiar place for a special occasion. People know what they like to eat, they have a rapport with the staff and they don’t have to break their budget to enjoy a romantic night with their partner.
Moná Thomas, a writer for People magazine, writes about the urgency of signing up for the reservation dinner.
“Reservations are recommended, and often fill up quickly, since this is the one evening of the year Waffle House operates reservation-only dining for select booths and tables at participating locations,” Thomas said.
If this year’s special dinner was missed, there’s always next Valentine’s Day with that special someone. Don’t forget to call for a reservation.
