The Norse News Athlete of the Year award is a longstanding tradition at Spartanburg High School. Each year, one male and one female senior are recognized for their exceptional athletic ability, leadership and commitment to excellence in their sport. This year’s Female Athlete of the Year is Evers Morris (12), a standout attacker and midfielder who has rewritten the record book for Spartanburg girls lacrosse.
This season alone, Morris delivered one of the strongest offensive stretches in program history, including 10 goals on 10 shots against Greenville and eight goals each against Fort Mill and Wade Hampton. She ranks among the top players in the state in both points and goals and leads the Vikings in goals, assists, points and draw controls.
Not only is Morris a top scorer, but she is also one of the team’s most consistent players. She has recorded at least four goals in 15 games this season, including major region matchups against Dorman, Clover and Lexington. She currently leads the Vikings in goals, assists, points and draw controls, which is a rare combination for any high school athlete. Her ability to contribute in every area of the field sets her apart as a true all‑around athlete.
Aubrie Lauderdale, head coach of the Spartanburg High School girls lacrosse team, said that Morris’ impact extends beyond her stats.
“Evers is an example of turning adversity, like an ACL tear, into strength. She set goals throughout her recovery and exceeded every one of them. Much of her success came from the work she put in beyond team practices and requirements, countless hours on her own and in the weight room,” Lauderdale said. “She leads by example through her work ethic, but also through her encouragement, constantly uplifting those around her and serving as everyone’s loudest cheerleader. Her dedication and relentless effort allowed her to etch her name into Spartanburg lacrosse history, breaking every record for an attack player.”
Morris graduates as Spartanburg High School’s all‑time leader in career goals (236), assists (108), points and draw controls (332). She is a two‑time Region Player of the Year, two‑time first‑team All‑State selection and the 2025 Upper State Attacker and Player of the Year. Her junior season alone included 76 goals, 44 assists, 120 points, 96 draw controls, 29 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers, ranking her seventh in the state in points.
Morris is also a strong leader on and off the field. She sets the tone in practices and games, encourages her teammates and brings a competitive energy that elevates the entire program.
Bryce Krydynski (12) is one of Morris’ teammates and said she has always admired the energy and leadership Morris brings to the team.
“Evers is truly so amazing to play with! She always sets the tone for both games and practices on our team, whether it’s scoring when we need it most or cheering on teammates at practice to get our energy up,” Krydynski said. “Evers gives 100% in everything she does on and off the field and has a competitive drive like no other that allows her to succeed in everything she does.”
Earlier this year, Morris announced her verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Winthrop University, where she will continue her academic and athletic career.
Blythe Lemonds (11), another teammate, said that playing alongside her has been motivating and inspiring.
“Playing with Evers is like playing with a best friend, but also a leader,” Lemonds said. “She can control the field and create amazing plays that give her and everyone else a chance to become better and help the team win. She loves the game and competes not for her, but for her team and everyone supporting us.”
Morris’ dedication, talent and determination make her a very deserving recipient of the 2026 Norse News Female Athlete of the Year award.
