The local social season reached a fever pitch as Spartanburg High School students gathered at Indigo Hall for a Prom night defined by the opulence of the regency era. The historic downtown venue was reimagined as a sprawling ballroom fit for royalty, blending the school’s Viking pride with the high-society aesthetic of Bridgerton.
The “Bridgerton” theme for Prom was directly inspired by the Netflix original series produced by Shondaland. While the show is set in the 1800s, it uses a “turned up” version of history to create a vibrant, fantasy-like world that feels modern and approachable.
As guests arrived, the halls were embellished with cascading floral installations along with the soft glow of chandeliers. The decor leaned heavily into regency core, with lush greenery and lace drapes creating an immersive garden-party atmosphere that served as the primary backdrop for the season’s official portraits. This sartorial display highlighted the student body’s commitment to the theme, turning the event into a living gallery of modern and period-inspired decor.
Ben Neely (11) expressed the fun he had at Prom.
“I think Prom was a good time and was fun for everyone who went. The decorations looked great, and the food was excellent,” Neely said.
The fashion of the evening reflected a mix of modern and 19th-century formal wear. Ball gowns were worn in colorful palettes with intricate flowery detailing, while the gentlemen stuck with the traditional tuxedos that varied in color.
Kathryn Freeman (12) enjoyed the awe of the prom layout this year and all the memories she made.
“Prom was magical with beautiful decorations and royal vibes. I loved taking pictures with my friends before and cherishing these moments. I loved the food and all of the decorations as well,” Freeman said.
The highlight of the festivities remained the crowning of the court, a moment of high drama and celebration. For the first time in recent history, the school expanded its royal honors to include both junior and senior representatives, naming a Prince and Princess alongside the traditional King and Queen.
This year’s winners included Skylar Douglas (11), who was named Prom Prince; Kylee Williams (11), the Prom Princess; Reese Croker (12), the Prom Queen and Wade Neely (12), the Prom King. This expansion mirrored the show’s focus on debutantes finding their place in society, further cementing the Bridgerton influence on the night’s proceedings.
Williams emphasized her joy of being named Prom Princess.
“I felt that Prom was everything I could have imagined. The decorations really brought the Bridgerton theme to life and made me feel like I was at a real royal ball. Winning princess was one of the best feelings and added a royal touch to my special night,” Williams said.
As the evening concluded, the sense of community remained the focal point of the affair. Beyond the glamour and gossip, the event served as a final grand gathering for the Class of 2026 before graduation. The successful fusion of historical fantasy and modern school spirit ensured that this year’s prom would be remembered as the most sought-after invitation of the academic year, leaving the students of Spartanburg eagerly awaiting the next social season.
