Tennis coach Todd Seagle said it best when he stated the Girls Tennis team had a great season. During the regular season, the team finished with a record of eight wins to two losses. The girls finished third in their region, which was described as “very tough” by Coach Seagle.

In the playoffs, the Vikings defeated JL Mann by a score of 4-3 in the first round, and then went on to beat the number one seeded Fort Mill 4-2 to move onto the next round of the playoffs.

The Viking’s playoff run finally ended in the third round of the playoffs, when Riverside beat them in a close match, 4-3. The team was led by Sophie Clayton (10), Kathrine Bauer (9), Anna Beeson (10), Eliza Hull (12), Anna Wallace Cheek (12), Ava Mobley (11), Louisa Lowry (10), Eva Pye (11), Lillian Delaney (10) and Mary Mac Hurst (10).

Individually, Clayton and Bauer both competed in the State Singles tournament. Both athletes were named All-State. Bauer was also named the Sportsmanship Award winner for the 5A division.

Tennis training is year-round for me, and it feels great to be recognized for my hard work on the court,” Clayton said.

After a successful season, the girls hope to run it back again next year, and compete for a state championship.
