The start of the 2022-2023 school year brought new and exciting changes with the implementation of E-Hall pass, FlexTime Manager and Open Gate System. These new systems put into place this school year will provide structure and safety for students, teachers and staff.

FlexTime Manager is a new database implemented to help students become more active in clubs and organizations throughout the week. FlexTime Manager is also a great asset for teachers because they can schedule tutoring for those that need extra help in particular subjects.

Prior to this year, one would have to show up to clubs whenever they knew club options were available. Typically these meetings were after school, which often interfered with part-time jobs and athletics.  Now with the FlexTime Manager, one is able to sign up for what lunch and what activity they would like to participate in daily without missing after-school events.

Sallie Barre (12) believes the FlexTime Manager will benefit her greatly this school year.

“I enjoy having the FlexTime Manager because it allows me to organize my weekly schedule and plan ahead with my academic and school involvements,” Barre said.

FlexTime Manager allows one to become a member of different groups and gives one the ability to see what clubs and organizations are open to participate in.

Perrin Little (10) enjoys the wide variety of activities available.

“I like VikingHour. I have participated in the Arena and tutoring sessions. FlexTime Manager was hard to understand at first, but now that I understand it, it keeps my schedule for VikingHour organized. I am still interested in participating in fun activities,” Little said.

The Open Gate Security System is a new metal detector system that has been put into place at all three student entrances for students to walk through daily.  The system is also being used at large after-school events like football games.

According to www.ancgroup.com, “… just the presence of the machines alone is often enough to prevent someone from entering or even thinking of entering the building with a weapon. And this is especially true for the students and staff walk through the machines on a regular basis.”

Another new addition this school year is the E-Hall pass system. E-Hall pass is a program that allows students to request to use the restroom, go to another teacher’s classroom or go somewhere they are needed. Teachers must allow the pass to go through and then a timer appears on the student’s device that lasts until the student returns from where they were.

History teacher Kelli Foster is pleased with this new platform and its many functions for students and teachers.

“E-Hall pass is very user friendly and makes pass writing much easier than in previous years. I like that we’re able to see how many times a student has requested a pass that day and can make sure that they aren’t missing a great deal of instruction throughout the school day. E-Hall pass has also been a game-changer for writing passes to the nurse. Overall, I think this system will be beneficial to the faculty and students at SHS,” Foster said.
