“Love and Gelato” is the debut novel of the New York Times Bestselling author Jenna Evans Welch. Centered around the protagonists abrupt move to Italy, it follows Lina as she comes to terms with her mother’s death, deals with romantic interests and finds herself. Not only a love story, this story also follows Lina as she learns more about her mother’s college days in Italy as she travels around famous cities. Along the way, Lina not only falls in love with Italy, but also with a local boy who quickly befriends her.

One reasons why this book is so popular is its remarkable descriptions of the Italian scenery. Offering a first-person view of Italian culture and art, this book helps the reader feel immersed in the story.

This perfect summer read transports you to the lovely countryside of Italy, and immerses you in the art and cuisine that makes Italy so famous.

I loved this book as it was the perfect blend of romance and finding who you are. Welch’s descriptive language draws in her readers. I read it down at the beach, and could easily visualize the famous statues and streets that Lina sees. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an enjoyable and entertaining read. This is one book that you never want to put down, and will continue to reread time and time again.
