Over the years, children across the globe have enjoyed their favorite television shows on Saturday mornings. A popular cartoon show almost every American kid knows, the “Phineas and Ferb” series, came to an end in 2015, after making children happy since 2007. At that time, the creators of “Phineas and Ferb” felt they had run out of ideas and couldn’t see the show go on forever. The likely-needed action disappointed many for the series coming to an end, but recently Disney creator and voice actor Dan Povenmire proposed the idea of a revival series for the show after signing a new deal with Disney.
The comedy kids show was said to be returning with the revival series sometime in 2024, with two new seasons consisting of 40 episodes. Povenmire’s eagerness to make a return to the show brings excitement from young and old across the world. The new deal comes with a season two renewal for Povenmire’s more recent animated series “Hamster & Gretel,” along with another strand of other live action series in the future.
Wyatt Settle (10) says he was a big fan of the series growing up and is glad that the show will make a return for the next generation.
“I was always into ‘Phineas and Ferb’ and other shows growing up. I feel like some of the shows I’ve watched have positively affected me mentally with giving me a sense of humor while watching shows like ‘Phineas and Ferb’.”
Nolan Smale (10) was also into the “Phineas and Ferb” series as a kid and thinks they never should’ve concluded the series.
“’Phineas and Ferb’ always will have a place in my heart and seeing them discontinue it a few years ago made me a little sad, because it made me think of all the times I’d watched them. Good things at some point likely have to come to an end though,” Smale said.
Some may ask, “How may watching certain shows affect kids at a young age?” A recent study in Japan shows kids ranging from ages 8-12 spend 4-6 hours a day on a device. Another study performed by the National Institute of Health shows that too much screen time at a young age can have a few negatives like developmental and academic issues. Some other things parents must deal with at home like homework, school time and other activities may be affected by watching television or screens in general. Besides, some of the negative effects screens and television may have on kids are some show’s abilities to show kids important problem-solving methods. This can be seen in many shows curated for young children.
Farrell Mudiwa (10) believes many lessons and important messages can be learned and interpreted by children watching certain shows and other types of films.
“I think that watching shows that give a positive message at a younger age is a real benefit when kids are coming of age and as they grow up,” Mudiwa said.
Regardless, classic programming like “Phineas and Ferb” is a way to remind teens of their childhood and times that were simpler. By bringing such shows back, viewers can once again feel excited and nostalgic, despite the pains of growing up.
