First being described as “on-demand radio,” podcasts have become more and more popular over the years. Podcasts are audio shows that people create and listen to through music or podcast apps like Spotify or Wondery. Though the competition between music or podcasts is a personal preference, each has a purpose and goal. Podcasts can be listened to for entertainment and educational value. Music is mostly listened to for entertainment and as a form of art and expression. Whether you listen to podcasts or music, each has a variety of genres. Music or podcasts, both can help you focus and enjoy hobbies or car rides.
Mary English Hammett (10) listens to music more than podcasts to help focus and for entertainment.
“I just prefer to listen to music. I could try to listen to podcasts, but I would get bored easily, I could try it while I’m doing something though,” Hammett said.
From murders to murderers to missing person cases, true crime podcasts are growing their fan bases drastically making true crime podcasts one of the most popular genres. “Crime Junkie” with Ashley Flowers and Brit Prawat will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to hear more about a case. The women talk about any and every kind of true crime case. Explaining the moods and actions involved with the case makes the podcast intriguing for its audience.
Miss Taleisha Moore enjoys listening to “Crime Junkie” and how the hosts present the cases.
“I love “Crime Junkie” because the podcasters are very informative and also are engaging. I am a fan of true crime shows and podcasts because it’s interesting to see how cases get solved and why sometimes they don’t,” Moore said.
Some podcasts can inform with fresh news rather than old murder cases. Starting in 2017, “The Daily” from New York Times is another podcast that is growing remarkably. Giving us our daily news in a podcast form, it keeps listeners up to date in 30 minutes. Many say that they trust the sources that the Times get their news from and is easy to understand. The variety of information is good for the mixture of ages that listen to the podcast.
When wanting more of a laugh than the news, “Smartless” with Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett will have you on the floor. The comedians talk about experiences they have had and their daily lives but with a comedic twist to make the stories enjoyable. Going over places or trips they have been on; they will have you shocked. The jokes and interactions between the men make the podcast funny and addicting to listen to.
Halee Abbott (11) listened to the Joe Rogan podcast and thought it was funny.
“The Joe Rogan podcast is hilarious because there’s funny conversations between celebrities,” Abbott said.
Podcasts can help your car rides be entertaining and memorable or hobbies have a little more excitement. Creating podcasts can help you learn and grow with technology. When becoming a “crime junkie”, laughing with comedians, or learning about current news stories, podcasts are great for entertainment or learning new things.
