The kickoff to senior season at Spartanburg High School is the annual Senior Field Day, in which seniors get to enjoy a fun filled day full of yearbooks, friends, fun activities and good food.
This year, Senior Field Day started off with seniors receiving their yearbooks, which were carefully planned and designed by the SAGA staff. In a long-held tradition, the first yearbooks were presented to principal Dr. McMillan, student body president Anna Beeson, and senior class president Zion Littlejohn. Seniors were given time to write notes and sign their friends’ yearbooks, and then were led outside to enjoy free time outside and various activities.
Lillian Delaney (12) is one of the Co-Editors in Chief for the yearbook staff and helped lead the design process for the yearbook.
“This year’s yearbook was all about all the things that make Spartanburg High School the Vikings. Aspects we included were tradition, dedication, intelligence, strength and our main theme of ‘Blue & Gold,’” Delaney said. “We decided that we wanted to have a yearbook that encompassed what all it means to be a Viking.”
Some of the activities available this year included a mechanical bull, an inflated obstacle, volleyball and rock climbing. Seniors were able to enjoy the various activities and socialize in the sunny weather, with many seniors wearing college t-shirts to celebrate the upcoming years.
Dorothy Salley (12) thought that the Senior Field Day was a great memory to close out her high school experience.
“I really enjoyed riding the mechanical bull, I tried my best to stay on. I had so much fun with my friends and loved being able to hang out and sign yearbooks,” Salley said.
Once field day was over, the celebrating seniors were released to decorate their cars and trailers for the Senior Parade. The Senior Parade is an annual tradition that started during the 2020 COVID-19 Pandemic when the school wanted to honor and celebrate the seniors in a safe and creative way. Since then, the Senior Parade has been one of the highlights of Senior Field Day, with Freshman, Sophomore and Junior classes coming out to cheer on the graduating seniors alongside family and friends.
As the seniors drove by, the underclassmen cheered and held up signs congratulating seniors on their hard-earned graduation.
Louisa Lowry (12) enjoyed the Senior Parade.
“I really loved participating in the Senior Parade with all of my friends and classmates. We had so much fun decorating our float and wearing our college shirts,” Lowry said.
