Saturday, April 27, was a night full of laughter and excitement as upperclassmen danced at Indigo Hall in downtown Spartanburg. The prom theme this year was “Meet Me at Midnight,” which encouraged students to wear glittery dresses and tuxedos. The event hall was decorated with star garlands and tablecloths to fit the atmosphere. The disc jockey (DJ) played popular music and even took song requests so students could dance to their personal favorites. The venue also offered a photo booth for couples and friends to take pictures and share memories with each other.
Along with going to prom together, friends were also going to eat and having fun before prom. Jayden Band (11) was glad to have been with his friends for prom and liked dancing to the songs the DJ played.
“I thought the decor at Indigo Hall was really nice, and I enjoyed that the outside patio was right beside the dance floor from being sweaty,” Band said. “I liked the songs the DJ played because I could dance to them. I went with a group of 15, and I’m glad I got to make new friends within that group.”
The Student Council took time to prepare every detail to make the night truly one of a kind. From the table of sweets to the valet parking, the juniors of Student Council got to fully express their ideas. Indigo Hall’s layout made it easy for guests to go from room to room to be with friends and dance. Patrons could go to the courtyard to socialize or to the dining room to sit and eat. Teachers helped to serve water and treats, including cake pops, chips and more.
Dressing in fancier clothing is often the favorite part of attending the event. Molly McAbee (11) adored everyone’s dresses and tuxes.
“I thought prom was really fun. I enjoyed seeing everyone dressed up and having a good time. Indigo Hall was a great place to host prom,” McAbee said.
As a tradition at Spartanburg High School, the prom is a terrific way for students to celebrate and appreciate everything that they have accomplished this school year. While many danced for hours, the prom queen and king were announced. This year, the prom queen was Anna Beeson (12) and the prom king was Braylon Rookard (12).
Rookard was thrilled about winning the title of prom king. He dedicated his victory to Symir Nelson (12) who he named as his campaign manager. “Winning prom king was a truly euphoric feeling. I was so happy to hear them call my name. It was definitely a night that I will never forget,” Rookard said.
Micah Kennedy (12) loved hanging out with his friends and thought prom was a great way to end his senior year at Spartanburg High School.
“Prom was amazing, and the DJ played the best music, making the dance very high energy. I went with many of my friends and loved every bit of it. It was a great way to go out with a bang for our senior year,” Kennedy said.
