Over the years, millions of people have longed for the return of the NCAA College Football video game. This year, dreams will come true; the new and improved college football video game has been confirmed to be released this summer.
The game many loved was discontinued in 2013 due to a lawsuit against Electronic Arts (EA) Sports, the developers of the game, concerning names and images used in the video game. Participants in the game did not get paid or sponsored, which outraged players and faces incorporated in the game who were not getting their fair payment for being represented. EA has thought out the process for years now and are finally ready to give players an offer to be in the game.
Many people since the discontinuation of the game have been upset because of how long it has taken to get the game back up and running again. Some information regarding the contents of the game have been released including real college athletes and in-depth game customization.
Ben Brough (12) is excited for the game release this summer and has his own experience with the old game.
“The old NCAA football game I have is the 2005 edition. It is by far the coolest football game I’ve ever played mainly because you can use the colleges and universities you have rooted for your whole life. While the old game doesn’t have names of players in it due to rules and regulations in place at the time, I think that having the real players on rosters now in game will be a great addition. I’m excited for what’s to come and am looking forward to enjoying this new game,” Brough said.
Taylor Jakubchak (10) has waited since the last game that was released over a decade ago and thinks EA should step-up to make sure the game meets expectations.
“I remember playing NCAA 14 – the old game. It was a ton of fun when I was little. EA Sports has released a Madden game every year and the game usually looks good and is fun to play, so I think EA Sports needs to make sure they make the game perfect since it has been a while since the last one came out,” Jakubchak said.
Bringing the game back all together was not an easy task for EA Sports and other game developers. Since the legal trouble the game got into, the antitrust case emerged in September of 2013 and eventually reached the Supreme Court. Many thought the return of the game wouldn’t be possible. However, compensation for players of a $600 offer just to be represented in the game made players and colleges across the country satisfied with the offer, resulting in all 134 Division I college football programs being included the game.
Logan Wallace (10) thinks the deals with players were a great idea by EA Sports to make sure they get the game to maximum potential having most of the NCAA players involved.
“I heard about the EA giving the players that are going to be in the game$600 each, and I think this is a really good idea that not only promotes the players in the game but they’re getting paid for it as well,” Wallace said.
