While the seasons and weather can affect mood and productivity, fall is one of the most favored and productive times of the year. With school starting again and the cooler temperatures, most people become more motivated to work and be with the people in their lives. Many holidays are associated with autumn including Halloween and Thanksgiving, bringing opportunities to be with family.
Kenny Le (10) appreciates fall because of the change in weather and the opportunities to celebrate with family.
“I like fall because all the pesky insects are gone somewhere else away from me. I am so stoked for the fall season because also I get to celebrate my brother’s birthday,” Le said.
Watching festive movies, baking food and spending time outdoors are just some of the numerous ways to get into the fall spirit. Halloween brings spooky decorations and pumpkin-themed goods engaging the community. Carving pumpkins is a popular tradition among families and friends, creating memories of being messy and laughing together. Thanksgiving is associated with home-baked meals and gratefulness. As the intense heat of the summer leaves and the trees change color, taking walks, having picnics and studying outdoors becomes common.
Will Yeargin (12) enjoys the season to be with friends, watch movies and to look at the new scenery with the temperature change.
“I like fall because the weather is the perfect temperature. It has the best fashion, and landscapes are always beautiful with the oranges, yellows and reds. I like to watch ‘Coraline’ and ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox’ – they are great during fall,” Yeargin said. “I’m just excited to have some movies nights with friends, dress up for Halloween, go to some of the football games and maybe have a picnic.”
Watching autumn and holiday-themed movies and TV shows can be the perfect way to check off the list of fall festivities. Popular movies to watch include “Hocus Pocus,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “Coraline” and “Beetlejuice,” as well as shows like “Gilmore Girls,” “Stranger Things” and “Friday Night Lights.” For most, the cozy and warm feeling from watching shows brings a familiar sense of security. Music can also capture the cozy, nostalgic feeling of fall. Bands similar to The Smiths, The Cranberries and Fleetwood Mac can create a setting of being in the fall season.
Madelyn Stephens (12) likes fall due to the traditions her family does and the hobbies she partakes in, as well as the holiday season.
“Fall is my favorite type of weather. I love the cold chill in the air and yet the warmth of the sun. I also love the holidays that come with it like Halloween, Thanksgiving and my birthday. Some of my favorite things to do are drink tea, listen to classical music and bake. My family goes to Grandad’s Apple Orchard every fall and gets lots of apple goodies and pumpkins,” Stephens said.
