Holiday magic is often connected to treasured memories shared with loved ones. Traditions established with children early on frequently evolve into lasting practices that families will pass down for generations.
Aiden Smith-Burnett (11) says that her family gathers for a big Thanksgiving dinner at her house every other year. During the alternate years, she travels to Georgia to celebrate Thanksgiving with other relatives. One of her favorite traditions is going shopping with her family.
“My favorite tradition is that my whole family goes shopping on the day after Thanksgiving, after we eat dinner,” Smith-Burnett said.
Hailee Doster (11) says that she and her friends often enjoy gatherings at her home with her family. Hailee mentioned that these occasions are not only a great way to bond with her friends but also an opportunity to create lasting memories.
“My family and I love to have a get-together with everyone and eat. My favorite thing about the holiday season is being together with family,” Doster said.
Madelyn Kyle (10) says that she enjoys spending time with family and friends. “I love the holiday season because it is filled with joy, and the music, movies, and traditions remind me of when I was a kid,” Kyle said.
One of Kyle’s cherished traditions is attending her church’s candlelight Christmas Eve service to honor the true meaning of the season. On Christmas Day, Kyle’s family has a special breakfast featuring a unique dish.
“My family eats a cinnamon roll-like dish, but with honey and walnuts instead of cinnamon and icing,” Kyle said.
These traditions, whether widely shared or unique to a particular family, add meaning to the holiday season and can be simple, inexpensive and quick to implement. Ultimately, these special practices give everyone something to anticipate, enriching the overall experience of the holidays.
