As the holiday season quickly approaches, Spartanburg comes alive with festive fun and activities for the whole community. A momentous 20th annual Turkey Trot 8K was held again this year on Thanksgiving morning. This popular holiday race draws families and runners of all ages from across Spartanburg. The race started and ended at the iconic “Love Where You Live” mural on Spring and Main Streets.
Moving into December, the Christmas Tree Lighting at Dickens of Christmas serves as the grand opening of the season’s celebrations. Starting at 6 pm on December 3, the event was set against the backdrop of downtown Spartanburg. The lighting ceremony brings together friends and neighbors for an evening of music, hot cocoa, and the joy of seeing the gigantic Christmas tree illuminated. The lighting always brings the community together and delivers the spirit of the season, offering a heartwarming introduction to a month of holiday festivities.
A week later, the Spartanburg Christmas Parade started at 6:30 p.m. and winded its way through the streets of downtown Spartanburg. Floats, many created by local businesses, schools, and organizations, were covered with sparkling lights, seasonal decorations, and festive themes. Marching bands from local schools provided the music, playing classic Christmas carols as they march along the route. This event always spreads Christmas cheer and maintains the holiday spirit throughout Spartanburg.
Finally, as December unfolds, the enchanting Nutcracker Ballet takes center stage at local theater Twitchell Auditorium, is the grand finale of the season’s celebrations. This timeless production, filled with breathtaking choreography and stunning costumes, captivates audiences of all ages. The production runs from the 13-15 and is directed by Ballet Spartanburg’s own Carlos Agudelo.
